How is an injured worker's health managed?

An injured worker's recovery process is continuously monitored and managed by a dedicated support team as guided by key documents and legal frameworks.

The support team

An injured worker is monitored by a support team consisting of the worker's employer, the insurer, the nominated treating doctor (NTD), allied health professionals, and the workplace rehabilitation provider. This team coordinates efforts to assess the worker's health and capacity for work, ensuring a smooth recovery and return to work.

Documents to manage IW's health

Certificate of Capacity (COC)

The COC, completed mainly by the NTD, provides essential information about the worker's injury, treatment, and ability to work. It helps the insurer and employer develop a recovery plan and determine compensation. It includes the worker’s details, injury type, medical certification, management plan, and capacity for work.

Injury Management Plan (IMP)

An IMP, created by the insurer in collaboration with the worker and the support team, is a detailed recovery roadmap. It outlines the worker's treatment, rehabilitation, and care needs, helping coordinate efforts to achieve recovery and return to work goals.

Return to Work Program

Employers implement structured return to work (RTW) programs to help injured workers transition back into the workplace. These programs focus on ensuring a smooth re-entry into the workforce and continued recovery while on the job.

Return to Work Plan

A tailored RTW plan, developed by the workplace rehabilitation provider, details the worker's pre-injury role, current condition, and any challenges they might face returning to work. It also recommends adjustments to help accommodate the worker's physical capacity.
